Als Geisteskrankheit oder Geistesstörung wurden früher unterschiedliche Verhaltensbilder und Krankheiten bezeichnet, die sich durch Verhaltensformen ausdrücken, die in der Gesellschaft nicht akzeptiert werden (siehe Kapitel Staatsmedizin). Beide Bezeichnungen werden heute kaum noch verwendet.
